Matthew Chan
Animator, Creature Builder, World Maker​

I’m Matthew Chan, an animator and digital effects artist with experience across many areas of the AVFX pipeline.
Having completed my MA in Digital Effects at Bournemouth University, I’ve worked as a generalist in modelling, texturing, visual effects, environment creation, and compositing, while focusing on rigging and animation.

In Brocolopolis, I designed, modelled, rigged, and animated a strawberry butterfly character, expressing emotion and personality purely through movement. The project went on to be showcased at several film festivals, which was a highlight of my studies. More recently, in Buzz Stop,
I created and animated the bee bus character, continuing to refine my skills in both technical rigging and animation.

I previously earned first-class honours in Computer Character Animation at Teesside University, and my work has been recognised through opportunities such as being hired by Studio Tucan via faculty recommendation, winning best work at ExpoTalent, and exhibiting at ExpoTees in London.

Originally trained in mechanical engineering, I transitioned into art and design to pursue my passion for storytelling. My goal is to bring characters and worlds to life through expressive motion, and to craft animation that connects with audiences on an emotional level.
